Our reaction to the Budget 2014

March 19, 2014

There were lots of positive messages on growth and exports but this was a bit of a scattergun Budget . The Chancellor was trying to address all key parts of economy. It might have been better to focus on one or two key areas, such as Open for Business, that have been so successful. Anyone benefitting from new reliefs will be grateful, but the benefits will take time to flow through and to balance the books, the Chancellor is banking on growth and significant increases in tax receipts which are still uncertain.

The £2bn for investment allowance for business is welcome, but in the context a £1.4trn economy, this is relatively small fry. Overall though, business will be pleased there are no major changes as certainty is often what matters most.
