Launch of the Natural Capital Protocol - PwC comments

Published at 11:12 AM on 13 July 2016

Commenting on the launch of the Natural Capital Protocol in London, Will Evison, Assistant Director, Sustainability and Climate Change at PwC said:

"The Natural Capital Protocol does not start from the usual position that companies should be concerned about natural capital purely for the benefit of external stakeholders. It starts with the view that maintaining and restoring natural capital is vital for business success - and managing it better can contribute significantly and positively to business performance.

"The vast majority of businesses have impacts on natural capital somewhere in their value chains, either through their use of resources, production of waste and emissions, or both. As one of the architects of the new protocol, and as a key adviser to organisations across the world, we believe that business can be the driving force behind the necessary transition to a green and inclusive economy.

"But to do this, business will need to demonstrate new levels of leadership on the big issues we face, balancing the growing demands on the planet with their bottom line.

"The Natural Capital Protocol provides a blueprint for this new kind of leadership, with a vision of a world where business conserves and enhances the natural capital that safeguards thriving societies and prosperous economies."
