Outstanding Industry Contribution Award goes to PwC partner at British Accountancy Awards

Tony Lomas, a senior partner at PwC and the chairman of its UK Business Recovery Services team, has received the Outstanding Industry Contribution Award at this years British Accountancy Awards, attended by over 700 people from across the industry.

Lomas is best known for leading the winding down of Lehman Bros Europe, widely recognised as the largest and most complex insolvency ever. Since it began in September 2008 Lomas and his team have returned an unprecedented
£12.1bn so far to senior creditors and an additional £23.5bn in client assets, post-administration client money and other creditor settlements.

Commenting on the reason why Tony Lomas received this recognition, Kevin Reed, editor of Accountancy Age and chairman of the judging panel for the British Accountancy Awards, said:

"The management of the Lehman administration has certainly been a great success story, in a world where the insolvency community doesn’t receive many positive headlines, and where there have been few positives out of the financial crisis.

"Tony Lomas deserves to be feted for his work, and the work of the people around him. Dealing with this insolvency has been the focus of his, and many other professionals, working lives over the past seven years. He represents the best the insolvency profession has to offer."

On accepting his Award, Tony Lomas said:

“I am extremely flattered to receive this award but, in many ways, this is really a team award. None of what has been achieved would have been possible without the efforts of so many of my colleagues at PwC and the Lehman staff.  I have the benefit of an army to support me with 45 restructuring partners, 600 restructuring staff and thousands of other specialists from elsewhere in the firm.  As a result, I am very happy to accept this award on behalf of the whole PwC team.”
