  • Shortlist features businesses with a focus on digital innovation, international exports or use of an emerging business model
  • Every region in the UK is represented in the 2014 shortlist

The shortlist for the fourth annual Private Business Awards, sponsored by PwC, in association with HSBC Private Bank and Numis Securities, emphasises the importance of adopting a business strategy for a digital age, with many of the finalists demonstrating an innovative use of technology.

Also performing well are businesses with a global mind-set and a successful track record in international exports. The shortlist features many companies who successfully demonstrate how they are using emerging business models to ‘disrupt’ established sectors with a fresh product or approach.

The shortlisted finalists were drawn from over 1000 entries from private businesses across the length and breadth of the UK.

Brian Henderson, partner and Private Business Awards leader at PwC, commented:

“This shortlist showcases the very best of the country’s private businesses. It contains a mix of well-known household brands alongside some that are less well known, from every region in the UK. What these businesses share, apart from their success and valuable contribution to the UK economy, is their innovative and exciting approach.

“Each business has an unique and interesting story to tell, and I look forward to sharing their successes, and demonstrating the talent and innovation in the UK’s private business sector.”

Charlie Hoffman, Managing Director, HSBC Private Bank (UK) Ltd said:

“We are delighted with the calibre of participants in this year's Private Business Awards. Once again, there is strong competition across all categories, and the candidates demonstrate immense talent and contribution to the private business sector in the UK.

“The award that really stood out to me was the Private Business Women of the Year Award whose entrants were outstanding, having achieved so much both within their own businesses and of the also in their contribution to the wider community.

“At HSBC Private Bank, we have long recognised the importance of private businesses to the economy, and are very pleased that their entrepreneurship and achievements will be showcased and celebrated nationally.”

The winners of the Private Business Awards 2014 will be announced at a dinner to be held at The Guildhall, London on Wednesday 10 September 2014.
