Temporary ban on short-term work permits now lifted
July 01, 2016
The Department of Labour has now started to receive applications for short term work permits on the grounds that the work to be performed by the applicants is of an emergency nature.
In order to substantiate this assertion, the Department is now requesting a letter written by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry evidencing the same.
There is no change in other requirements for application which were previously in force.
Such work permits are issued for a fixed period of 1-3 months.
What this means for you as an employer?
Employers who employs foreign nationals should benefit from the availability of the short term work permit program, as it requires fewer documents and steps, has a faster processing time and costs less than the long term work permit.
