Original Qualification Letter now required for lodging Employment Licence applications in Shanghai

The Shanghai Labour Bureau has advised that with immediate effect, applicants will now need to provide an original of their Qualification Letter when filing their Employment Licence application in Shanghai. Previously, the application was able to be lodged with just a scanned copy.  

The Qualification Letter is one of the documentary requirements for the Employment Licence which is the initial stage of the overall work permission process for China. This letter should illustrate a minimum of 2 years working experience in the relevant industry. Upon receipt of the approved Employment Licence and Invitation Letter, applicants can proceed to apply for their Work and Residence Permits in Shanghai.  

What this means for you as an employer? 

With immediate effect, employers should ensure that Qualification Letters are drafted in a timely manner for any new cases as the original will need to be sent to Shanghai before the application is able to filed.
