HM Courts and Tribunals Service (HMCTS) launches online appeal service

04 July 2017

HM Courts and Tribunals service has launched an online appeal service that allows taxpayers and their agents to submit certain appeals online. An appeal is still required to be made to HMRC in the first instance in respect of Direct Tax appeals.

In order to make an online appeal, a taxpayer will need a scan or photograph of the relevant notice or conclusion of review letter. Taxpayers (or their agent) can also use this service to apply for the Tribunal to issue a closure notice in respect of a current enquiry.

HMCTS says that the online process means that information is validated when it is entered into the system so applications are less likely to be rejected for incomplete or incorrect information.
