Phil is a Director with PricewaterhouseCoopers, joining in 2005 to lead the Financial Services team within the Sustainability & Climate Change practice. Phil has worked extensively with Financial Services sector clients, and since 2009 has focused exclusively on assisting Private Equity (PE) House clients with their environmental, social and governance (ESG) opportunities and challenges.
Phil’s work with PE Houses has encompassed responsible investment strategy, policy and procedures development, including electronic tools for screening new investments for ESG risks and opportunities. He and his team have also developed an approach to identifying value-enhancing ESG initiatives, then working with portfolio management teams to validate and implement them.
Phil joined from Barclays Bank Plc, where he gained extensive experience and expertise in financial, environmental and “corporate responsibility” (CR) management. A Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers, he trained initially as a retail and corporate banker, before becoming involved in the environmental and social agendas in the early 1990s, when establishing Barclays Environmental Risk Management Unit. He was later Group Environmental Director of Barclays plc.
