MCA Awards success for Grant Saggers who wins Strategy Consultant of the Year
28 April 2015
David Lancefield, Partner at PwC
It really comes as no surprise that Grant Saggers has been named Strategy Consultant of the Year at the MCA Awards. The award recognises the dedication and hardwork that Grant has applied to everything he’s done here at PwC, not to mention his recent client project, where he was engaged in a highly complex and strategic role.
Grant is not only a fantastic economist, but he’s also a great teacher. He works with clients to change the way they look at the evidence, challenge their ways of thinking, and to dispel the myths that influence or constrain the way that the company works. He’ll challenge them to start looking at evidence in a much more robust and scientific way; in the way that you do in the courtroom, and the laboratory, but too seldom do in the boardroom.
Another thing to mention about Grant is how he articulates himself to clients. Always calm, collected and informed, Grant empowers organisations so they feel like they’ve learned something and can use that information in a useful way. I think he once mentioned to me that he almost went into lecturing, and you can tell he would have been great at it.
Taking a look at Grant’s successes in a little more detail, I wanted to shine a spotlight on his work with a large healthcare specialist, which was of a truly exceptional standard. Grant successfully represented PwC and the client in a number of high-profile hearings at the Competition Commission, translating his strategic insights into their business and guiding a number of senior client stakeholders through the whole process.
Over the years, Grant’s professionalism and expertise have proved vital in a wide range of projects; competition investigations into the cement market, banking market and annuities market and the state aid restructurings of banks in Greece and Cyprus. Grant also now leads PwC’s economics training agenda (yes, that’s the teacher in him), including sessions on market investigations, the economics of mergers and on case-making, all of which provide vital insights into his expertise and support the professional development of the team here. And all the while he successfully juggles these commitments with those of a young family.
Grant is an excellent consultant, a great colleague, and truly dedicated to delivering the best possible results for all of his clients. I’m very pleased to be able to congratulate him on being named ‘Strategy Consultant of the Year at the MCA’s.
