I'm a senior partner leading PwC’s Private Business practice and a practitioner who has worked in this market for over 20 years. I and many of my colleagues around the UK and beyond are dedicated to working with private businesses. We work with large privately held multinational businesses as well as owner managed businesses, helping shareholders and their management teams on all aspects ranging from structure, growth and potential realisation of value from their businesses. Transferring wealth from one generation to the next is also key for the UK's family-owned companies.
Privately-held, unlisted companies are the backbone of all western economies but, in the UK at least, they never quite receive the recognition they deserve, nor are they followed with anything like the same intensity of interest by the financial media, whose shareholder and institutional investor readers will inevitably focus more on public companies. This is something we are trying hard to rectify through publications and events such as the Private Business magazine, Private Business Awards and activities under a PwC Private Business Forum banner to support our clients.
