PwC responds to Tech Nation report

In response to Tech City UK's Tech Nation report, Jon Andrews, head of technology and investments at PwC, said:
“Today’s Tech Nation report shows that technology is already helping to reshape and re-balance the future of our economy. For this to continue post-Brexit we need to prioritise creating the right environment for tech hubs and innovation to flourish right across the UK. It’s encouraging that the government is prioritising tech investment through its Digital Strategy and the Budget.
“The focus now needs to be on creating a flexible regulatory environment, providing lifelong skills learning for everyone and investing in emerging technologies research. This framework needs to be flexible enough to support the UK’s vision to be the leading place for technology investment and innovation - now and in the future.
“To have a vibrant and successful tech industry in the UK it needs to be representative of the wider population. Men currently outnumber women by three to one in the tech industry and our research shows that this gender balance is unlikely to shift soon unless we can educate and excite females about the range of technology careers at an earlier age. Only 27% of the female students we surveyed would consider a career in technology, compared to 62% of males.
“There is a real opportunity for the industry, schools and universities to work together to show young people - and especially females - the reality and range of technology careers in today’s world. Greater diversity of thinking is what will fuel the innovation of the future and position the UK as leading the field.”
