DEL consults on new employment programmeFollow @PwC_NI
The Department of Employment and Learning (DEL) has launched public consultation on a proposed new employment programme.
Provisionally called, Steps 2 Success (NI), the programme will replace DEL’s main adult return to work provision, Steps to Work, which was introduced in September 2008.
DEL says Steps to Work has been successful in meeting its targets to assist unemployed and economically inactive people to find and sustain employment against a backdrop of high unemployment and low economic growth.
However, the current Steps to Work contracts ending in 2013 and, combined with rising unemployment, the high level of economic inactivity and the introduction of Universal Credit, the Department wants a new employment intervention to help more people to find and sustain employment.”
The new Steps 2 Success (NI) programme is intended to create stronger incentives for providers to assist those participants who are further from work, targeting those most in need.
The public consultation period will run from 20 July 2012 to 12 October 2012 and the consultation document can be viewed at http://www.delni.gov.uk/steps2success-ni-consultation
