DETI launches consultation on energy efficiency
Follow @PwC_NIThe Department of Enterprise, Trade and Investment (DETI) has launched a 12 week consultation on new energy legislation.
DETI intends to ask the Northern Ireland Assembly to legislate for greater powers for sustainable energy and further powers to regulate natural gas and electricity.
The Executive’s strategic aim is for a more sustainable energy system in which energy is used as efficiently as possible; where much more of our energy is from renewable sources; and where energy efficiency is maximised.
Its Strategic Energy Framework (SEF) envisions Northern Ireland’s energy future over years to 2020 with the key energy goals of building competitive markets, ensuring security of supply, enhancing sustainability and developing our energy infrastructure.
The Consultation will seek views as to whether the Department’s and the Regulator’s statutory duties remain appropriate for sustainable future of energy and on a number of proposals for additional regulatory measures relating to natural gas and electricity.
