    Time for a new deal?

As the age of austerity and economic uncertainty continues, the next decade will see fundamental changes to the role of the public sector. During this time, public service providers will need to carry on making savings to tackle the national deficit and meet ever-rising demand and expectations for services.

These pressures will be particularly acute in the North of England. This region has been hit hard by the economic crisis and has a larger share of public service employment than other regions. Recognising these challenges, we have teamed up with the Smith Institute to look at the changing role of the public sector in the North.

  • New deal for healthcare

The NHS is undergoing major structural reforms and is finding £20 billion efficiency savings over the next three years. Long term demand continues to grow, our population is ageing and the expectations of patients are rising.

Recognising these challenges and opportunities, we are working towards a new deal for health services across the North.

We will be sharing our healthcare insight in the next few weeks. To receive an email alert for this, please email anthea.r.nother@uk.pwc.com with 'Healthcare' in the subject line.
