About Amin

Mohammed Amin (known as Amin) is a tax partner in PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP and leads PwC’s Islamic Finance practice in the UK.

Amin’s personal specialisation is the taxation of financial institutions. He has written the Alternative Finance Arrangements (Islamic Finance) section of the LexisNexis Butterworths Finance Act Handbook for every year from 2005 onwards, and the corresponding section in Simon’s Direct Tax Service which is the leading tax encyclopaedia in the UK.

Amin is a member of the HM Treasury Islamic Finance Experts Group, established by the Economic Secretary to the Treasury to advise the Government on Islamic Finance strategy. 

Within PwC, Amin also:

• is an elected member of PwC’s Supervisory Board.
• serves on the firm’s audit committee.

Externally, Amin:

• chairs the Business and Economics Committee of the Muslim Council of Britain
• is a Council member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation (CIOT)
• serves on the Technical Committee of the Association of Corporate Treasurers (ACT)
• serves on the Islamic Finance For Business Working Group set up jointly by International Financial Services London and British Expertise.
• is a member of the Editorial Advisory Boards of “New Horizon”, the magazine of the Institute of Islamic Banking and Insurance, and of the International Journal of Islamic and Middle Eastern Finance and Management

Amin graduated in mathematics from Clare College, Cambridge.  He is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales, an associate member of the ACT and a fellow of the CIOT.  Amin’s CIOT fellowship thesis on "A detailed review of the new UK tax rules on corporate debt" was awarded the CIOT medal for the best fellowship thesis submitted in 1999.

Amin was recently included in the judging panel for the Muslim Power 100, a list of the hundred most influential Muslims in the UK, as well as being included in the list itself.

Amin regularly contributes articles on Islamic finance to a range of professional and industry magazines.

Away from work, Amin is a keen chess player, both in person and via the Internet. He has also been involved in chess organisation for many years, and served as Finance Director of the British Chess Federation during the mid 1980's when the BCF staged the world chess championship. Amin also has a one-dan grade at the Japanese board game of go. He was recently elected as a Fellow of the Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures & Commerce.
