I am the Senior Corporate Reporting Partner in the Assurance practice of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP (PwC). I joined the firm in 1978 and become a partner in 1990. I have spent several years as a lead audit partner, and am now an advisor to the Hundred Group of Finance Directors from the 100 largest UK-listed companies.
I launched my blog last year in recognition of the growing importance and rapid changes in this area. The blog is updated twice a month with hot topics in corporate reporting and issues I feel companies, investors and other interested parties should be aware of. The blog is aimed at all those with responsibility for communicating and analysing corporate performance.
Recent topics have included: thoughts on cash reporting in the current economic climate and insights on sustainability reporting as the credit crunch continues to influence behaviour.
I am always pleased to hear your views and comments on the postings and to take questions about corporate reporting.
More about me
I am recognised worldwide for my thought leadership on corporate reporting, and for my work to reshape the corporate reporting model to meet the needs of investors. I am a leading expert on effective narrative reporting and the challenges of the sustainability agenda, co-author of ‘Value Reporting – Moving beyond the earnings game,’ a book that challenges the adequacy of the financial reporting model. Over the past decade, I have led an extensive research programme in the investment community to highlight the real information needs of investors and the shortcomings of the current reporting model.
I am the driving force behind many publications that examine the efforts of the world’s leading companies to enhance their communications. I am also a founder member of the Report Leadership initiative, which produces innovative ideas for enhancing corporate reporting. More recently, I have been a key contributor to the Accounting for Sustainability initiative sponsored by the Prince of Wales. I am involved with a number of think tanks and governance-related organisations such as the ICGN, The Work Foundation and the Policy Network, and with the RSA’s project to profile ‘Tomorrow’s Investor’.
I also pioneered the PricewaterhouseCoopers prestigious Building Public Trust Awards, which celebrates the commitment of the UK's largest corporations and public sector bodies to build public trust through their external communications (websites etc) and their annual report and accounts. The awards are now in their sixth year and are an established high-profile event.
